IMGs WHO HAVE COMPLETED BOTH AMC EXAMINATIONS
To practice medicine in Western Australia, a medical practitioner must be registered with the Board.
Conditional Registration
International Medical Graduates ("IMGs") are eligible for Conditional Registration under the category of
supervised clinical practice if they have successfully completed both the:
- Australian Medical Council ("AMC") multiple-choice questionnaire ("MCQ"); and
- AMC clinical examination
Eligibility is subject to the Board being satisfied the person:
- Is competent to practise medicine;
- Has a sound knowledge of the English language; and
- Is of good character.
Those practitioners seeking Conditional Registration with the Board, should first liaise with an
employing/sponsoring organisation. The employing/sponsoring organisation will then make the initial
application to the Board on behalf of the practitioner.
Conditional registration is site and position specific and is generally granted:
- For a specific duration (on an annual basis); and
- Subject to satisfactory performance.
Recognised specialists are not subject to site, position or time limitations.
To progress an application for Conditional Registration, an applicant must:
Once the Board has granted Approval of the Initial Assessment ("Initial Approval") the medical practitioner
will then be required to make an appointment and present to the Board with the appropriate documentation for
Conditional Registration.

Note: Approval of the Initial Assessment means that the Board has considered the initial application from the
employer and it has deemed that the medical practitioner is eligible to apply for Conditional Registration in
Western Australia. The process of applying for Conditional Registration is a two-stage process as follows:
Both stages need to be successfully completed before the Board will grant Conditional Registration to the
medical practitioner.
